Thursday Thirteen #3: 13 Ornaments...

13 Ornaments I Look Forward to Seeing Each Year

1. This porcelain miss is one of our more recent additions in the past 10 years or so. Our original angel, a sweet little paperboard model, was just getting too worn out so she's been retired to the angel rest home and now lives in a special ornament box.

2. This little guy is probably my favorite ornament of all. About 40 years old, he's one of the first we bought when we started the candy/sugar-plum, toys/animal/kid tree theme. His poor little head is so fragile and barely hanging on but he gets lovingly and carefully wrapped and unwrapped every year for a place of honor up front on the tree.

3. And this one is even older and more dear. It belonged to my mother and
her mother before that, so it's been hanging around for a long time. It holds a place of honor at the tippy top of the tree, well out of reach of curious kitty paws.

4. One of a variety of bears that live on our tree, this little guy sports his plaid finery.

5. This jauntily-chapeaued little fella has lost his music sheet but still carols away every year through adorable little mousy buck teeth.

6. Mama bear also gets a prime vantage point up front as she watches over the rest of the tree bears.

7. One of a series of calico/gingham/chintz cat and dog ornaments we have, these always crack me up when we take them out. So flirty and coy.

8. Love my little dancing bear - from the same era as the gumdrop mouse above, it glows real pretty when the tree lights hit it just right.

9. One of a series of sugary confections - cupcakes, lollipops, candy canes, and candy garlands that adorn our tree.

10. My little sugar bear - a more recent addition that fits in perfectly with the rest of the sugary treats on the tree.

11. A great memento of our Christmas vacation trip to Disney World three years ago with Jim, Tammy, and the kids.
(this one's for you, Dawn!) ;)

12. One of several wooden toy soldiers, this little dude keeps the others in line.

13. Looking almost good enough to eat, this little gingerbread boy doesn't run as fast as he can - he pretty much stays put.

These are only a few of the hundreds of ornaments we've accumulated over the years, each as cherished and full of sweet memories as the last.
