"Where the lilacs grow and the happiness shows...

...on the faces of children and flowers and trees..." Lyrics to an old Slim Whitman (yes, I like him, in spite of the ridicule he gets in that Martian movie!) favorite of mine from the 70's. An appropriate sentiment when the lilacs bloom, don'cha think?

We have about 12 lilacs - most of which are cuttings from the original 3 bushes. They grow along a side fence and as a bit of camouflage in front of the shed in a corner of our backyard. We pruned them back severely last year because they had gotten waaaay too tall and leggy. I didn't expect them to bloom again for a couple of years because that's just what they do, but these babies have rewarded us somewhat anyway and they smell scrumptious!

Oh so beautiful! We've got a bunch of lilac bushes, too...can't wait for them to bloom, but that's a few weeks off. Just love to go in the back yard and breathe when they're in bloom...what a heavenly scent!

I can almost smell them looking at your pictures. I love lilacs. We planted a couple of bushes ten years ago and they have never bloomed :(.

They are a glorious flower!

take care,
Dawn
