Oh, Puh-leeeze!!

I recently started taking a new (for me) medication for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis. I had asked my doctor for a prescription for Boniva because the idea of a once-a-month dosage was high on my convenience meter. Now I'm wondering if the convenience is worth the effort of getting into the damn package!

The packaging is unbelievable. First you have a quadri-folded, 3-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 1/2" deep package, held together by one of those white tape thingies. Said package is made of some kind of plasticized material... translation = it doesn't tear.

So, after you separate the tape and unfold all the folds, you have to pull the glued patient information booklet... b-o-o-k-l-e-t !... off, try to open the glued first page without tearing anything, and wade through umpteen pages of undecipherable verbiage, just so you can try to figure out how to even take the stupid stuff. Wait, there's more!

Now the trick is to get to the blister pack that holds the medicine. It's located under one of the folded pieces of the the container, covered by another piece of this plasticized material with a perforated strip - that doesn't tear! Oh no, no, no - you can't just tear the perforation or pull up this piece of plastic - not if you value your fingernails, fingers, and hands. The stuff will NOT tear. It will not pull up. You have to go find a pair of scissors to cut the corner off the stupid thing and then it tears!! And then you can poke your pill through the blister pack, and then you can swallow it with a glass of water.

Phewww! I'm exhausted just telling the story. I could have grown a whole new body in the time it took to get to the medicine. Oh, oh, and you wanna know the best part?? All of this ridiculous packaging is for one pill!!! O-n-e ... 1 ... Uno!

There oughta be a law.

And they call that "convenient", huh? I'm afraid I'd have given up...just opening cheese sticks for my kids is enough to raise my blood pressure.

Kajira - I'm hoping it's a good thing - hasn't been out long enough to know yet. Ya, the once a month dose is gonna be real nice!
