It's going to be a long, hot, summer

Grrrrrr... they're baaa-aaack. The ants, I mean.

The natives are restless and they're restlessing in my kitchen. On my floor. On my windowsill. On my wall. On my counter. Sending out their scouts to see what kind of goodies they can find. I wonder what happens when the scouts don't report back to the rest of the colony? I wonder if they gather round the campfire and come up with a new plan of attack? 'Cuz I smush every one I see and then it seems a long time before I see another. Good thing the walls/counters are white - makes it real easy to see the little beasts.

I'm thankful for small favors ... so far they're not in anything, only on. Bobby (the bug man) is coming again tomorrow. Usually the every other month schedule does the job - twice within three weeks is highly unusual.

*sigh* It's going to be a loooooong season.

you are not alone in your invasion. i found them on the floor of my pantry, in the foyer, IN MY CLOSET!! mine meet their fate with a can of Raid. =P my bug guy is coming soon too. i've had about enough. i wonder what they do differently hdown here though. mine comes once a year. he does the whole house, inside & out. he tells me that i should expect a couple of weeks seeing the occasional bug that tries to seek refuge in the house but not to worry cause they won't have enough time to go back for their buddies. i am covered for the whole year. any critters that do not heed the stay out signals, i just call him & comes back for a spot check/ but i usually only have to call him maybe during month 10 or 11 when he's due to come back soon for the full deal once again. and everything he uses is people & furbaby safe. we don't have to leave & neither does the pup.

My daughter had tiny black ants in her closet that I couldn't get rid of. My exterminator couldn't do it, either. One day, I came home to find that the ants had marched out of the closet, over the bedroom door, down a fairly long hall, over the bathroom door, and down the other side of the bathroom door and were happily dining on toothpaste smears. I killed every ant I saw and wiped down the trail. Then I got serious about killing those little monsters. I found a recipe online for homemade ant traps, involving sugar water and boric acid, and of all the methods I tried, that was the only one that worked. In three days, I accomplished what my exterminator could not do in 4 months. (There was a similar recipe for protein loving ants involving peanut butter. I'll see if I can find it for you.)

Good luck! I'm just beginning my yearly attempt to eradicate fire ants, so I feel for you.

Good Luck with those ants, we get them a couple times in the srping through summer in the kitchen. They come in the side door there and it drives me nuts. I squirt any type of household cleaner within reach.. windex has a pretty good sprayer on the nozzle! :)

Oh, and I have enjoyed reading your blog this morning... and the song in the background rocks!

Dawn - wow, once a year, I want your bug guy! Mine uses pet/people safe stuff too and we're on a year 'round plan of every two months. Maybe my bugs are more tenacious than yours?? LOL -

Jennie - thanks much for the link! I'll check it out. I know years ago they used to use boric acid but I think discontinued for safety reasons, I'm not sure. I know it's very effective though. Good luck with yours too!

Leah - I know, I've grabbed whatever is handy sometimes too! Glad you enjoyed your visit - come back again! :)

Kajira - ya, at least they're the common house ants and not the fire ants. My son battles those in SC and his kids have suffered sometimes from being bit by the vicious little beasts.

Thanks for the good luck wishes, ladies!
