A little of this, a little of that...

Pheww! It took longer than anticipated, but finally the freezer inventory is done. We have an upright freezer in the garage, a freezer compartment in the kitchen fridge, and a freezer compartment in the basement fridge, all of which were jam-packed but not in a good way. In spite of having an inventory list, it had gotten to the point where we were no longer quite sure what was where or even what we had.

Having a list doesn't help one bit if the right hand (me) doesn't know what the left hand (Lew) is doing and consistently keep it updated, ya know?

Anywhoo, things are better oganized and more readily grabbable now.

Good thing too, because with the coming of fall, my instinct to keep the freezer stocked for the winter months has kicked in.

Keeping all those yummy peaches company are cinnamon apples, tomatoes, and taco soup. Still to come this week
are a couple of casseroles I need to restock and a new corn chowder recipe I want to try. Maybe some quick breads too... pumpkin and banana.

All in between watching tennis, of course.
I'm pleasantly surprised that the ESPN coverage has been pretty comprehensive, but can't say much for CBS' weekend coverage. It's the night matches that get really exciting, people!!

The American men have proved a disappointment in this final grand slam of the year, but I've been enjoying some great tennis matches and the off-court shenanigans of the commentators.

So, that's some of what I've been up to. Not terribly exciting, but hey, it keeps me off the streets and out of trouble! ;)

Viva Mexico!
1. Have you ever been to Mexico?
No

2. Do you know anyone who is currently in the military?
Yes

3. What is the last party you attended?
probably a grandchild's birthday

4. What do you think about President Bush saying that the United States' National Anthem should only be sung in English?
I think he's right - learn the language or remain respectfully silent during the singing of a country's National Anthem, just like I'd do in another country if I didn't know the language.

5. French fries or freedom fries?
Oh puh-leeze! - they're French fries. They've been French fries for all of my years and I'm not about to start calling them stupid Freedom fries to suit the tender sensibilities of some moronic over-reactive. I'm not in the habit of trying to re-write history

STRAY CAT
by Francis Witham

Oh, what unhappy twist of fate
Has brought you homeless to my gate?
The gate where once another stood
To beg for shelter, warmth, and food
For from that day I ceased to be
The master of my destiny.

While he, with purr and velvet paw
Became within my house the law.
He scratched the furniture and shed
And claimed the middle of my bed.

He ruled in arrogance and pride
And broke my heart the day he died.
So if you really think, oh Cat,
I'd willingly relive all that
Because you come forlorn and thin
Well...don't just stand there...Come on in!
