REPOST: Those of you who follow my photo blog may have already seen these pink pretties, but I thought the pink lovers might enjoy them too!

The mystical properties attached to rose quartz make this special heart-shaped gift from my daughter-in-law even more special. Historically, it is a symbol of love and beauty. I keep it on my desk and periodically run my fingers over its cool smoothness when I think of her.

About Rose Quartz

Pink or peach-colored quartz is called Rose Quartz. It has a hardness of 7.

Rose Quartz is found in Brazil, India, Madagascar, Spain, and several locations within the USA.

Rose Quartz will chip and crack rather easily.

Rose Quartz fades in the sun; most Rose Quartz is dyed.

Rose Quartz is the love stone, used to improve and strengthen the special bonds between people.

Rose Quartz is the alternate for garnet as January's birthstone.

Rose Quartz is the anniversary gemstone for the 2nd year of marriage.

Rose Quartz is the state mineral of South Dakota.

A gift from Lew, my pink pen/pencil set has held up well under many years of use, abuse (unintentional) and non-use. Its pretty tapestry holder keeps it nicely protected.

Happy Pink Saturday everyone! :)

"When summer gathers up her robes of glory,
and like a dream of beauty glides away."

Sarah Helen Power Whitman

As summer winds down in our part of the country and falling leaves announce the coming of fall, our Bonica rose is giving us her last hurrah. Not as many blooms this late in the season, but just as pretty, and just as strikingly pink.

Now don't y'all laugh at my pink for this week!!

My beastie-girl Zoey is a mixed-breeed Siamese known as a Tortiepoint. Usually the extremities - face, ears, feet, tail - are relatively darker than the body. In her case, however, it seems that the gene mixture mutated somewhere along the way and resulted in her one unusual lighter-colored foot.
I've always been enchanted by it's pretty pink pads and the contrast against the bits of darker fur. :)

Earlier this week, we took the boys on their first trip to Philadelphia to visit the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. After lots of sightseeing, they wanted to try one of Philly's famous cheese steak sandwiches, so we stopped at a local deli with outdoor seating.

While waiting for our sandwiches to be ready, a lady with shocking (and I do mean shocking!) hot pink hair walked by, but darn, darn, darn! - I couldn't get my camera out of the bag quick enough to get a shot!

Soooo, I had to settle for this less than unencumbered shot of a charming pink boutique across the street. Different and cute (I especially liked the darker tone embellishments,) but not nearly as impressive as that pink hair would have been!

Several years ago we were out shopping for annuals at one of our local nurseries. While looking around, I noticed a big display of cute and silly whirlygigs. Now, normally, I don't collect a whole lot of tchotchke and wouldn't purposely be putting a pink plastic flamingo anywhere in my yard. On this day, however, I was feeling a bit whimisical and goofy, so just for grins and giggles, we brought it home and stuck it in a flower bed.

Since then, I've become quite attached to the little guy and faithfully pull it out of storage each season to
whirl away in among the flowers. It's getting old, and the color is fading from the sun, but it's still kind of cute, and it still makes me smile when I see its wings spinning like crazy and the poor little thing never gets anywhere!

We like to switch welcome/garden flags as the seasons change. This watermelon from our summer collection seemed a perfect fit as summer's heat begins to settle in here in MD.

As coincidence would have it, this week's theme on my Project 365+1 blog is... you guessed it, pink! If you'd like to see more of my pink stuff, look here. :)

This little pretty, a gift from my stepdaughter, Beth, is very symbolic and special to me. I love the tiny little perfect pink roses.

One night, many years ago, the kids and I sat up well into the wee hours, having one of our marathon discussions about nothing in particular and everything in general. At one point, we were into some pretty abstract ideas and I posed the question: "How do you know you're a people? How do you know you're not just a butterfly dreaming you're a people?" (not a clue where that came from - I can be deep, but not that profound! I think I read it somewhere.) Anyway, the ensuing discussion was a hoot and we had a grand time proving and disproving each other's theories... and bonding.

Evidently that discussion
stayed with my Beth because one time she gave me a lovely drawing she'd done of a dreaming butterfly. Then, somehow she managed to find this one perfect gift that combined not only my love of roses, but the symbolic butterfly too.

I keep it next to her photo in the living room as a sweet reminder of that special butterfly "thing" we share. The little flurries that float around inside when you turn it over are iridescent sparkles. They give it even more of a dreamy quality.

My little water globe is a treasure. :)

I love the color, but don't have a whole lot of it... have to see what I can do to remedy that situation! In the meantime, I do have these:

Readying the yard for some summer pleasure, we planted a bunch of hot pink geraniums in front of the kitchen windows. In a location with a mix of shade and afternoon sun, they've done well there in the past and it's nice to see the splash of color when I busy myself in the kitchen. Or, to just relax on the front porch and enjoy.
